A Borders family still with extensive interests in that area. Family homes include the 13th C. Hume Castle (destroyed 1651), The Hirsel, Paxton House (given to the state by politician John Home-Robertson) and Wedderburn Castle.

The family includes the Earls of Marchmont (the Earldom became dormant in 1796), the Lords Polwarth and the Earls of Home. The latter family included the British Prime Minister Sir Alex Douglas-Home (1903-95), who became 14th Earl but renounced the title for life in 1963.
