Located at East Longman, 1¼ miles (2 km) northeast of Inverness, at the south landfall of the Kessock Bridge, the Caledonian Stadium is home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club.
'Caley Thistle' came about through the merger of two small Inverness clubs in 1994; namely Inverness Caledonian and Inverness Thistle, which both played in the Highland League. Originally based at Telford Street Park, the club moved to their new stadium in 1996 as a condition of admittance to the major Scottish Football League. The club has subsequently gone on to considerable success, including humiliation of top club Celtic in 2000, which even brought comment in the Scottish Parliament.
