A sea loch in the Arisaig district of the West Highlands, with the settlement of Arisaig at its head, Loch nan Ceall forms a popular anchorage 6 miles (10 km) south southwest of Mallaig. Numerous small islands, rocky islets and rocks, connected by sandbanks, occupy its mouth dividing the loch into two navigable routes; namely the North Channel and South Channel.
