One of a collection of modest summits lying to the north of Allermuir Hill and Caerketton Hill in the Pentland Hills in the S of Edinburgh Council Area, Muilieputchie rises to 345m (1131 feet) a quarter-mile (0.5 km) southwest of Swanston.
