Tower Mill

Located next to Drumlanrig's Bridge in the centre of Hawick (Scottish Borders), the Tower Mill now comprises an entertainment complex which forms part of the Heart of Hawick, along with the Borders Textile Towerhouse and Hawick Heritage Hub. The building includes a small cinema, a Visit Scotland tourist information centre and café bar, together with rentable workspaces of multiple sizes and meeting rooms to hire. The 108-seat auditorium provides a venue for popular and art-house films, theatre productions and broadcasts of the latest productions from national institutions such as the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal Opera House.

A spinning mill existed on this site in 1824, but the current building dates from 1851, built for Messrs Elliot, hosiery manufacturers. The mill lay disused for many years before being converted to its current use and opening in 2007. Preserved in the basement is a large waterwheel, some 4.3m (14 feet) in height, thought to be the oldest in Southern Scotland and the first in Hawick to be put to use in generating electricity in 1900.
