Rugby internationalist. Born in Perth and educated at Glenalmond College, Wainwright trained in medicine at Magdalene College, Cambridge, before gaining a commission in the Royal Army Medical Corps in 1987. He gained his first cap in 1992 and went on to play for his country on 37 occasions, serving to Scotland Captain and with a single outing in the British Lions squad. He retired from rugby in 1998 and is remembered as one of Scotland's most versatile players
Wainwright now lives on the island of Coll.
