A location in North Lanarkshire, Glencryan lies a mile (1.5 km) east southeast of Cumbernauld Town Centre on the periphery of the town. The Glencryan Burn descends from Palacerigg Country Park to become the Red Burn. The disused Glencryan Quarry is located between the Glencryan Plantation and the ruined Glencryan cottage. Glencryan Mine produced fireclay until 1958 and was connected by a tramway to the Cumbernauld Brick and Pipe works close to Cumbernauld Station in the modern-day Lenziemill. This wagons were dragged up the tramway by a continuous cable powered by a steam engine.
