A village in Angus, Lunanhead lie nearly 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Forfar on the road to Aberlemno. Now largely a dormitory suburb of Forfar, it owes its origin to a mediaeval plague, this site being chosen for an isolation hospital when the plague hit Forfar. Lunanhead is sometimes called 'the Berrecks' because it was used from time to time as a military base for government troops.
