A village in Highland Council Area, Cannich stands at the confluence of the Rivers Glass and Cannich in Glen Cannich, 8 miles (13 km) west of Drumnadrochit. Originally a small farming village, it grew in the 20th Century with the development of the nearby hydro-electric power station at Fasnakyle.
Situated amidst great hill-walking country, Cannich lies at the point where Glens Urquhart, Cannich and Affric all meet. Places of interest include the prehistoric Corrimony cairn in Glen Urquhart, the dam on Loch Mullardoch (the longest in Scotland) and the Dog Falls of Glen Affric.
One of the largest remnants of ancient Caledonian Pine Forest lies to the southwest and west.
