Slug Road

A road rising to 230m (757 feet) in SE Aberdeenshire, the Slug Road links Stonehaven with Banchory, on the River Dee, 13 miles (21 km) to the northwest. The modern A957 is named Slug Road from its origin in the centre of Stonehaven to the edge of the town and then follows the old road across much of its route. The unusual name derives from the Gaelic 'sloc' meaning hollow.
