String Road


(The String)

A mountain road which crosses the island of Arran, the String Road (or The String) links Brodick with Blackwaterfoot, 11 miles (17.5 km) to the southwest. It rises to 233m (768 feet). Now designated as the B880, the route of the road was surveyed in 1817 by the notable engineer Thomas Telford (1757 - 1834).
