Located on the SW coast of the island of Berneray (Western Isles), the Angus MacAskill monument marks the birth-place of the tallest Scotsman who ever lived, Angus Mor MacAskill (1825-63) who grew to 2.36m (7 feet 9 inches). MacAskill emigrated to Nova Scotia as a child.
The monument was erected by the Berneray Historical Society in 1991.
The plaque states:

Within these walls Aonghas Mor Macasgaill was born known as the Nova Scotia 'Giant', he was the son of Norman MacAskill who emigrated in 1831. Standing 7 feet 9 inches in height and without pathological defect, he achieved many feats of strength an is remembered as a kindly and just man and a humble Christian.
