Argyll's Bowling Green

(Argyle's Bowling Green)

A physiographic district and range of peaks of S Central Argyll and Bute, Argyll's Bowling Green (or Argyle's Bowling Green) comprises the northeastern section of the Cowal peninsula. It lies between Loch Long and Loch Goil and rises to 787m (2582 feet) at The Brack, which lies to the south of Glen Croe. The name Argyll's Bowling Green is a misnomer: the area is far from flat and the name is actually a corruption of the Gaelic Baile na Greine or 'Sunny Hamlet'. The lower slopes are covered by the Ardgartan Forest, part of the Argyll Forest Park.
