Dunbar Common

A plateau and area of moorland within the NE Lammermuir Hills, Dunbar Common is located 6 miles (10 km) south southwest the town of Dunbar. It is northern boundary is defined by Lothian Edge and Deuchrie Edge. Once available for community grazing, the Common was divided amongst several landowners in 1833, an action which brought an unsuccessful hearing in the Court of Session, with many local users and the Town Clerk of Dunbar appearing as witnesses. The common is crossed by a traditional routeway known as the Herring Road.
