A remote station on the West Highland Railway line in S Highland, Corrour Station (Gael: An Coire Odhar) lies a mile (1.5 km) southwest of Loch Ossian, 16 miles (25 km) east southeast of Fort William. At 408m (1338 feet), this station is the highest on the British railway network but it is inaccessible by road. Operated by ScotRail, Corrour Railway Station is unstaffed and is used by a remarkable 12,280 passengers per annum (2009-10). It is preceded by Rannoch Railway Station, 7 miles (11 km) to the southeast, and followed by Tulloch, 8½ miles (14 km) to the north.
Corrour Railway Station was built in 1894 at the behest of Sir John Stirling-Maxwell (1866 - 1956) owner of the Corrour Estate. He would travel from the station by pony-and-trap to a boathouse at the western end of Loch Ossian and then be conveyed by his steam yacht 'Cailleach' (the Old Lady) to reach Corrour Lodge. The boathouse is now the Loch Ossian Youth Hostel.
