Flodday


(Flodda, Flodaigh, Eilean Flodaigh)

An inhabited island located in an embayment in the northeast coast of Benbecula, Flodday (also Flodda, Gael: Flodaigh, also Eilean Flodaigh) lies a half-mile (1 km) southwest of Grimsay and is connected to Benbecula by a causeway. The island reaches a height of 20m (65 feet), has an area of 78.2 ha (193 acres) and is separated from Benbecula by the Sound of Flodday. Its population was 14 (1961), 9 (1971), 7 (1981), 8 (1991), 11 (2001) and 7 (2011).
