A residential district of E Glasgow, Fullarton lies between Shettleston to the north and Carmyle to the south, 3 miles (5 km) east of the city centre. The M74 motorway from the south terminated at Fullarton until it was extended to the west (2008-11) to meet the M8. The area was rich in coal, ironstone and fire clay, and this led to the establishment of the Clyde Iron Works to the south of Fullarton House in 1786.
