Crookston

A residential suburb of SW Glasgow, Crookston lies to the south of Cardonald and north of Pollok, 4 miles (6.5 km) southwest of the city centre and close to the boundary of East Renfrewshire. Originally an estate, it had the name of Crocis Toune which came from the Norman Lord, Sir Robert de Croc. It later passed to the Stewarts and eventually the Maxwells of Pollok. The area was annexed by the City of Glasgow in the 1920s. Across the White Cart Water, to the south, lie the ruins of the 14th century Crookston Castle. The first property to be handed to the National Trust for Scotland, this is now under the stewardship of Historic Environment Scotland.
