Penwhapple Reservoir

A small reservoir which lies on the course of the Penwhapple Burn in South Ayrshire. Penwhapple Reservoir is situated 2½ miles (4 km) south of Dailly and 4½ miles (7.5 km) east of Girvan. Retained by an earth embankment dam, it covers an area of 43.4 ha (107 acres). Operated by Scottish Water, it provides the public water supply to the latter and, in particular, William Grant's Grain Whisky distillery. It is stocked with rainbow and brown trout, which support a popular recreational fishery, managed by Penwhapple Fishing Club.
