Stan Stane

A solitary standing stone located a quarter-mile (0.4 km) southwest of Hollandstoun on the island of North Ronaldsay (Orkney), the Stan Stane stands 4m (13 feet) in height and is between 0.9 and 1.2m (3 to 4 feet) in width. Unusually, it is pierced by a small hole approximately half-way from its base. The stone may have been associated with a stone circle which once stood on Tor Ness, 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the north.

The Stan Stane is maintained by Historic Environment Scotland.
