The Mull ferry in Oban Bay

Oban Bay is a natural harbour at the northeastern end of the Sound of Kerrera in Argyll and Bute. The town of Oban surrounds the bay, with notable landmarks such as McCaig's Tower and St. Columba's Cathedral. An important communications hub, Oban Ferry Terminal, operates from the Railway Pier, built 1879-80. The North Pier and South Pier were constructed in the early 19th C. but have been much modified over the years. The South Pier is the location for Oban Lifeboat Station, the Northern Lighthouse Board Depot, a fishing quay and fish-market. Once the David Hutcheson and David MacBrayne's ferry terminal, the North Pier now tends to be used by recreational vessels.
