Laggan Swing Bridge

An impressive bridge which removes a section of the A82 Trunk Road to allow the passage of vessels along the Caledonian Canal at North Laggan, the Laggan Swing Bridge is located at the southern end of Loch Oich.

Originally a double leaf cast-iron draw-bridge built c.1847, it was replaced by a massive swing-bridge driven electrically-powered hydraulic motors in 1932, as part of an improvement programme on the road running through the Great Glen. The bridge is owned and operated by British Waterways opening on a regular schedule during the daytime, and on-demand in peak periods of the summer.
