Ruvaal


(Rhuvaal, Rubh' a' Mhail, Rubh' a' MhĂ il, Rudh' a' Mhail, Rubha a' Mhail)

A remote headland but important landmark which forms the northern tip of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, Ruvaal (also Rhuvaal, Gael: Rubh' a' Mhail, Rudh' a' Mhail or Rubha a' Mhail) lies 6 miles (10 km) north of Port Askaig. Ruvaal Lighthouse was established in 1859, built by engineering brothers David & Thomas Stevenson (1815-86 and 1818-87).
