White Meldon

A summit N Scottish Borders, White Meldon rises to 427m (1400 feet) 2½ miles (4 km) northwest of Peebles. It is crowned by a substantial Iron-Age hill-fort, described by the Royal Commission for the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) as "the largest native fort in the country". Four lines of defensive ramparts remain discernable, together with a substantial stone burial cairn. There is a smaller hill-fort on Black Meldon, which lies a mile (1.5 km) to the west.
