Classical Style Building, Corner of Trongate - Albion Street, Glasgow

The Trongate, one of the four principal mediaeval streets of Glasgow, extends from Glasgow Cross to Argyle Street. Formerly known as St. Thenew's Gait and named after the mother of Glasgow's patron saint St. Kentigern (or St. Mungo), it became an important residential and business area before the development of Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street to the west. The Glasgow Theatre Club was established in the Tron St Mary's Church in 1980. Opening as the Tron Theatre Club in 1982 with a membership of 5000, it eventually became a public theatre and in 1989 changed its name to the Tron Theatre. This theatre specialises in contemporary Scottish and international works.
