The larger of a pair of small rocky islands at the northeastern end of the Treshnish Isles in the Inner Hebrides, Cairn na Burgh More (also Cairnburgh More) guards the entrance to Loch Tuath on the west coast of Mull, 14 miles (22 km) southwest of Tobermory. These grassy islands are both remnants of ancient lava flows, and have a distinctive profile: flat-topped and trimmed with cliffs. Cairn na Burgh More extends to 1.36 ha (3.4 acres) and rises to a height of 35m (114 feet). It is owned and managed by the Hebridean Trust, along with the other Treshnish Isles. There are the remains of a castle here which includes a chapel. The property of the MacDougalls, the MacDonalds and then the MacLeans, it was garrisoned until the middle of the 18th century.
