Ballo Reservoir

The largest of a chain of reservoirs located within the Fife Regional Park to the south of the Lomond Hills, Ballo Reservoir lies 2½ miles (4 km) north northwest of Leslie and a similar distance southwest of Falkland and is situated on the course of the Lothrie Burn. It was built in the 19th century as a compensation reservoir forming part of a scheme to supply drinking water to Kirkcaldy and Dysart. Now operated by Scottish Water, it occupies an area of 70.1 ha (173 acres). It is stocked with trout to provide a popular recreational fishery.
