Located in the Firth of Tay in Fife Council Area, Mugdrum Island is a low-lying, narrow island that lies northwest of Newburgh. The island is cloaked in water reed (Phragmites communis) and the ecosystem forms part of the Inner Tay Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The waters to the north and south are known as the North and South Deep respectively.
