Priest Island


(Eilean a' Chleirich)

An outlying island, one of the Summer Isles, Priest Island (Gael: Eilean a' Chleirich) lies off the coast of Coigach in Wester Ross. Covering an area of 122 ha (301 acres), it is owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). In addition to wild bird colonies, there are populations grey seals, pygmy shrews and otters. The island, which was an early Christian retreat, also has a number of prehistoric stone circles.
