A string of modest summits in SE Aberdeenshire, the Hill of Garvock (also referred to as the Garvock Hills) runs parallel to the coast 3 miles (5 km) inland and extends for a similar distance. The range reaches 277m (908 feet) in height at the Tower of Johnston, 1½ miles (2.4 km) southeast of Laurencekirk.
