Grey Mare's Tail

(Talnotry Waterfall)

The Grey Mare's Tail is an impressive waterfall on the course of the Grey Mare's Tail Burn in W Central Dumfries and Galloway. Occasionally the Talnotry Waterfall, it is situated to the north of the Queen's Way (A712 road), 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Newton Stewart. It is accessible via a track from the car park next to the road, a path which passes the Buck Loup waterfall and also provides access to Murray's Monument, Black Loch and various public art installations. There are the relics of lead and nickel mines hereabouts, associated with an unusual geological intrusion at Talnotry.
