Calf of Eday

An uninhabited island of the Orkney Islands, the Calf of Eday is situated to the northeast of the island of Eday from which it is separated by Calf Sound. The island, with an area of 243 ha (300 acres), has a number of prehistoric chambered cairns close to which lie the remains of a saltworks that provided Orkney with most of its salt during the 18th and 19th centuries.
