A solitary corner wall in a field 2 miles (3 km) north of Leven and a similar distance west of Lundin Links is all that remains of Aithernie Castle. A 17th-century tower house, Aithernie was most-likely built by William Rigg, an Edinburgh merchant, on an estate that he purchased which had been the property successively of the Lundin, Carmichael and Inglis families. After his death is became the property of the Watson family. The tower was said to be in good condition in 1710, but a ruin by 1803.
Aithernie House, located 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the southeast on the edge of Lundin Links, was built in the mid-19th Century. Some years later it became home to the Russell family, of Tullis-Russell the paper-makers and is now the Old Manor Hotel.
