Ryat Linn Reservoir

Once of a cluster of five reservoirs situated between Barrhead and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire, Ryat Linn lies beneath Balgray Reservoir and is impounded by an earth embankment dam. Built 1847-48 for the supply of drinking-water, it is now operated by Scottish Water and covers an area of 8.7 ha (21 acres). The railway line from Glasgow to East Ayrshire snakes its way between these reservoirs.
