Lancefield Quay lies on the north bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow, between Finnieston Quay and Anderston Quay, a mile (1.8 km) west southwest of the city centre. It represents a small formerly industrial area in front of the district of Finnieston, where ships once landed their cargos into riverside sheds. Also located here were a brass foundry and on its eastern boundary, the Lancefield Rope Works and Lancefield Foundry, which was established as an engine works in 1821 by the marine engineer David Napier (1790 - 1869).
The former riverside warehouses (rebuilt in 1949) were converted to domestic use in the 1980s, creating an award-winning development of ninety-two flats and maisonettes. The industrial premises to the north have gone, replaced by large residential blocks taking advantage of river views and commercial developments, including a new base for the Daily Record newspaper (2000).
