Macaterick A hill in the panhandle where the south of East Ayrshire descends into Dumfries and Galloway, Macaterick lies to the south of a loch of the same name and 7½ miles (12 km) west southwest of Carsphairn. The border with South Ayrshire Council Area lies to the west and Dumfries & Galloway to the south. This summit is composed of granite, part of the Loch Doon Igneous Complex.
