Broadwood Loch

A flood-storage reservoir located in the western suburbs of Cumbernauld, Broadwood Loch lies 2½ miles (4 km) west of the town centre and 1¼ miles (2 km) south of Croy. Created in 1993, the reservoir is retained by a 6-m (20-foot) high dam, unusual in its construction because of the use of a High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) membrane to provide waterproofing. The reservoir is a popular for recreational fishing, having been stocked with bream, carp and roach. There are also reports of landing pike. An annual canoe regatta is held here.
