A knoll on the northwestern side of the Hill of Airthrey in NE Stirling Council Area, Fairy Knowe is an ancient burial mound which now lies alongside the second green of the Bridge of Allan Golf Course.
Now much reduced in both height and extent, the mound was opened in 1868 by Colonel Sir J.E. Alexander, Dr A. Paterson and a Mr Miller of Thurso, who was a visitor to Bridge of Allan, their work and findings described in the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Within were the cremated fragments of human and animal bones, together with a beaker, six flint arrowheads, part of a stone spearhead and a piece of pine which may have been part of the spear-shaft. They postulated that this was the grave of a notable chief.
