An unusual cylindrical doocot, with a domed slate roof, which completes the principal vista from Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders. This A-listed structure is located on a summit now known as Cothil, a mile (1.5 km) east of Polwarth, and at the end of a avenue of trees which extends for 1½ miles (2.5 km) northeast of the house. The doocot contains 532 wooden nest boxes around the walls and dates from 1749. It was built by the mason James Williamson for the Earl of Marchmont, although it may have been designed by the noted architect William Adam (1689 - 1748), who was most-likely responsible for creating the formal landscape of which it forms a part.
