Forest Wood Nature Reserve

Forest Wood Nature Reserve is an area of woodland, bog, heath and grassland in two parts, both located to the southeast of Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire. The larger section lies opposite Abronhill, 2 miles (3 km) east of the town centre, and comprises primarily plantation forest with other habitats around the periphery. A smaller section of long-established mixed woodland lies to the southwest around the Glencryan Burn. A range of flowering plants and fungi thrive here, with damselflies and palmate newts in ponds on the site, and cuckoos calling during springtime. The reserve is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, who work alongside the local community, North Lanarkshire Council and Forestry and Land Scotland as part of the Cumbernauld Living Landscapes project, which aims to enhance, restore and reconnect green areas of the town.
