Scarty's Monument

A brick obelisk located at the landward end of the North Breakwater at Footdee, to the north of the entrance to Aberdeen Harbour, Scarty's Monument is not a memorial as it might appear, but rather the ventilation shaft of a disused sewage outfall which once emptied into the sea nearby. It is named after a harbour pilot who kept watch from the North Breakwater during the 19th century.
