A granite monolith which has been incorporated as a landscape feature within a housing development on Hilton Drive in NW Aberdeen, the Lang Stane of Hilton (or just Lang Stane) is a free-standing block of stone just short of 3m (10 feet) in height. A scheduled ancient monument, it may date from the Bronze Age. The stone was once isolated in a field to the northeast of Hilton House, which was demolished c.1926 to permit the construction of Hilton Academy, the stone may have been temporarily re-sited while building works were underway and then restored to its original position. Having merged with the nearby Powis Academy, Hilton Academy was itself demolished c.1990 to make was for the present housing development. There is another Lang Stane in the centre of Aberdeen, 2 miles (3 km) to the southeast.
