Mackenzie Meridian

A monument on the northeastern slopes of Keillor Hill in SW Angus, the Mackenzie Meridian is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) southwest of Newtyle. Comprising a tall round tower, topped with a ball-finial, it was erected in 1770 by the landowner James Stuart-Mackenzie (1719 - 1800), who was Lord Privy Seal and a keen amateur astronomer. Its is known locally as Privy's Prap ('prap' being a Scots word for a tall chimney-stack).
