Loch Eck

A narrow loch on the Cowal Peninsula, Argyll and Bute, Loch Eck extends over 6 miles (10 km) northwest to southeast in the heart of the Argyll Forest Park, 7 miles (11 km) north of Dunoon. The peaks of Beinn Bheag and Beinn Mhor rise to the east of the loch which is fed by the River Eachaig. Along with Loch Lomond, this loch contains a natural population of powan (Coregonus clupeoides), a fish which is unique to Scotland. Loch Eck gave its name to a Royal Navy Loch-class frigate launched in 1944.
