Challoch Hill

A steep summit in the W of Dumfries and Galloway, Challoch Hill rises to 148m (485 feet) overlooking Luce Bay a mile (1.5 km) northeast of Dunragit and 2 miles (3 km) west of Glenluce. The true summit lies within a small patch of woodland called The Roundel, while a triangulation pillar is situated in front of this at a lower height. There is also a transmitter mast close to the summit. The railway line to Stranraer curves around outs eastern and southern slopes, running alongside the A75 Trunk Road to the south. There are other drumlins named Challoch Hill hereabouts, the nearest being Big Challoch Hill and Little Challoch Hill, 10 miles (16 km) to the east.
