Loch Alvie

Situated in the valley of the River Spey in Highland Council Area, Loch Alvie lies 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Aviemore. This is a shallow loch formed in glacial deposits, which forms part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Alvie Church lies on a spit of land which separates Loch Alvie from Loch Beag. These lochs are owned by the Alvie and Dalraddy Estate and together form a recreational fishery for pike and brown trout. The loch gave its name to the Royal Navy frigate HMS Loch Alvie launched in 1944.
