Loch Beannacharan

A small deep loch on the course of the River Farrar in Highland Council Area, Loch Beannacharan lies in Glen Strathfarrar to the west of Struy. A dam was built in 1951 at its eastern end to create a reservoir supplying water as part of the Affric-Beauly Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. This substantial mass gravity dam is 178m (585 feet) in width and 37m (122 feet) in height and incorporates a Borland Fish Lift. The Deanie Power Station lies on its northwestern shore but water is supplied to the Culligran Power Station, 3 miles (5 km) to the east.
