Whiteside Hill

A summit overlooking the Lyne Water in the Scottish Borders, Whiteside Hill rises to 368m (1207 feet) a half-mile (1 km) southeast of Newlands and 1¼ miles (2 km) south southeast of Romanno Bridge. On its summit are a series of concentric ramparts and ditches, which defend an Iron-Age hill-fort that extends to around 0.4 ha (1 acre) in size. Three phases of construction are represented; the last was a re-occupation following a period of abandonment, possibly due to the presence of the Romans.
