Byne Hill

A teardrop-shaped summit on the South Ayrshire coast, Byne Hill rises to 214m (702 feet) 2 miles (3 km) south southwest of Girvan. The summit, which is marked by a circular viewpoint pillar, is reached by well-defined paths from the southwest and northeast. This gives spectacular views over the town and out across the Firth of Clyde to Ailsa Craig and Arran and, on a clear day, the Antrim Hills in Northern Ireland. Nearby is a cairn, which was erected by the local round table organisation to commemorate HM Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977. The rather battered Craufurd Memorial is located on its southwestern slopes, above Ardmillan Castle. The underlying rocks are gabbros on the northeastern edge of the Ballantrae ophiolite complex.
