The valley of the Allan Water in SW Perthshire, Strathallan lies between Blackford and Bridge of Allan. Strathallan School, founded at Bridge of Allan in 1912, transferred to Freeland by Forgandenny in Strathearn. The Strathallan estate was associated with the Drummond family. William Drummond, 1st Viscount Strathallan (d.1688), allegedly introducing the thumbscrew into Scotland.
